When the church is in the lurch and will insult a pickle When the goose turns to the moose because the waltz is fickle When two tiny pence go prancing on a fence Then I have written a poem But it doesn't make sense

For Melissa My soul was like a brooding wood Where grandiose words piled up in tree-like spires Which bore no fruit, although the soil was good Only the shadows spawned unclean desires Then you came to my life, your fiery wit Sparked flames among my barren vanities And thereby burned my soul, but made it fit For thoughts like cornfields, words like apple trees
